Assalaamu Alaikum Parents,

You have had your Parent/ Teacher Conference for 1st quarter with your child’s teacher. Please take time to review the 1st Quarter Parent Conference Report Card and discuss with your child his or her 2nd quarter goals that he or she has set for the upcoming quarter. Also, discuss with your child daily about what he or she is learning at school. Ask the question, “What are you learning in (i.e. Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies)?” Your child should be able to give you specifics and not just activities. Additionally, your child should be able to answer this question for each core subject and the special area classes as well.

The school is already into the second academic quarter. The curriculum will become more challenging and the pace will increase. All second quarter cumulative exams will take place prior to the winter break. It is important that you spend a few hours with your child going over his learning and plan on how to improve his/her study habits that will impact positively on his/her academic achievement.

It is my expectation of all Al-Hadi staff to ensure that they bring ‘rigor’ to the learning process by assigning work that is challenging. That each student is engaged in meaningful learning that ignites innovation, critical thinking and creativity. We have set standards to ensure that our students are college and career ready when they graduate from the school. The State Standards provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn. These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education, so that when they graduate high school they are able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs. The standards:

• Are aligned with college and work expectations;

• Are clear, understandable and consistent;

• Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order

• Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;

• Are informed by other top performing countries, so that all students are

prepared to succeed in our global economy and society; and

• Are evidence-based.

As always, I appreciate your support.

Dr. Humaira Bokhari

This month, Al-Hadi students dealt with the daunting thought of first quarter cumulative exams. However, we prevailed! As a relief to a tiring week of hard work and studying, we enjoyed and organized bake sales, competed in house basket-ball games after lunch, and returned to our original class schedule with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for the new quarter. Also, this month has marked the beginning of many new after school clubs. Students can participate in extra-curricular activities of their interest, such as sports, speech & debate, and more. InshAllah, we look forward to the start of the new month and hope it will bring with it more success, opportunities, and memories.
